• Lecture: "Cosmetics as part of the modern lifeworld"

by Dr. Kerstin Ullrich, published in the Conference Report for HAGE IV.

Since 1994 there have been dialogue conferences looking at the topic area of skincare and health, led by Professor Ursula Hansen and Mr. Ingo Schönheit from the imug consultancy institute in Hannover.

The objective of the HAGE IV Conference, which took place in mid-June in Frankfurt, was to examine more closely the topic of ?Promises and Effects of Cosmetics?, and to discuss this with experts from a variety of areas.

Within the framework of the conference, Dr. Kerstin Ullrich spoke about ?Cosmetics as Part of the Modern Lifeworld?. Her lecture looks at cosmetics in the context of social & cultural change and the change in feminine concepts of identity. The prerequisite for understanding the function of cosmetics is the analysis of the conflicting tensions arising from the image of women today and the ideal of beauty.
